He was my hero too.
My sister used to take me to the training ground when I was a kid and the players would always come over, say hello and sign autographs. A few times they even had a kick about with us kids, I got a shoulder ride of Billy Bonds.
I'd like to see him try it now.

He was my hero growing up and I’m not sure that’s changed much if at all. Good players come and go but to me he is West Ham.

The word "legend" is most definitely apt for this man.
I remember he was still winning the cross country runs in training in his 40s. Played first team football until 43 IIRC?
Seems a great bloke too. Honest, straight talking, family man etc.

Billy being 75 and me having seen him play makes me feel old. Granted he was well into his 30s by then.
